The experiences we have at Sustaburn have taught us several things about the differences between an average renewable energy installation and a truly excellent one. Firstly, if a customer takes the step of investing in renewable energy, they want it to be genuinely carbon-neutral to make a real difference. But at the same time, they require the system to integrate seamlessly into their lives – a new clean energy technology is only ready for the market if it is as automatic and as hassle-free as the conventional ‘dirty’ energy system it replaces. All ÖkoFen wood pellet boiler systems are designed and built in-house at the Ökofen factories in Austria and Germany, where prototypes are literally tested to destruction for 12 months before the design is even made public, at which time a further period of extensive domestic trials begins. Only after this is the product deemed ready for market – no wonder, then, that ÖkoFen boiler systems are one of the most reliable wood pellet heating technologies anywhere in the world.
The ÖkoFen wood pellet boiler system is fully automated: not only does the system light itself automatically and feed fuel from the pellet store at precisely the right rate whatever the heating demand, but the boiler also cleans itself every day ensuring continued efficiency year after year. On top of this, consider that in most situations the pellet store will require refueling only once or twice a year, and it becomes obvious that our ÖkoFen heating systems really are as automatic and convenient as an oil or LPG boiler.
Another major advantage of the ÖkoFen system is that this is a truly scalable biomass heating technology. Most other biomass boilers are capable of a certain degree of modulation to meet varying energy demands, but the ÖkoFen system is fully scalable – the smallest ÖkoFen PELLEMATIC boiler will run efficiently whilst producing as little as 2kW of output – small enough for even a super-insulated modern eco-home. At the other end of the scale, the largest ÖkoFen systems, which utilise four boilers working in a cascade arrangement, can produce enough energy to heat a school, large office or industrial unit. And when combined with ÖkoFen’s Pellesol solar thermal panels, you can enjoy renewable heating and hot water all year round.
