Function of a Solar System

If the temperature in the collector is warmer than the lower part of the twin coil hot water cylinder, the circulation pump is switched on. This promotes solar heat circulation by means of the heat exchanger in the twin coil hot water cylinder. The solar coil promotes a trickle feed of heated water to the hot water cylinder. The cooled solar liquid is pumped back to the collector and heated again there. If the required temperature in the twin coil hot water cylinder is reached the pump is switched off.

The Right Direction

An un-shaded south facing roof is ideal for a solar system. Other un-shaded southerly orientations also work well. Where there are larger deviations from south an increase in collection size will compensate for any loss in directional efficiency.
